General information: This hands-on workshop provides the students with instructions on the fundamentals of constructing a computer from the beginning to end by learning the inside of the computer; mother board, memory, power supplies, ram, and etc. They will also learn the basics of how to network by IT Computer Wiz Kids Inc.
Program: Three weeks prior to the Youth Summit on Technology, students will form their team consisting of four members. At the Youth Summit on Technology, students will compete among 12 other teams. The team that assembles the computer first and the computer works will be the winner.
- Taking apart PCs and understand how they work in a fun and exciting learning environment (Students will practice disassembling and reassembling computers 5-7 times during the three week classes)
- Students will learn PC troubleshooting how to avoid, remove, and protect your PC from viruses/spyware
- Learn how to backup your computer and automate backups
- How much can money can you make in IT? Starting Salary, Mid Level, Managers
Prize: Every member of the winning 4- member team will receive a laptop.
Business and government support: This activity is maintained through the support received by team IT instructors and mentors. Several private and government agencies will provide volunteers to assist the students in their construction endeavors, as well as members of Symba.
