FLIGHT SIMULATION COMPETITION
Important Dates:
Introduction to Avionics Workshops - Jan 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th
Building Simulators - March 12th, 19th &, 26th
Flight Simulation Competition – May 7th
(Patriots 14th Annual Youth Summit On Technology)
Flight Simulation Summer Camps – TBD
General Information: The purpose of this project is to generate interest in the fields of avionics, aeronautics, and aviation. Working with flight simulators students will gain an understanding of the skills involved in flight, not just from the piloting standpoint but the engineering and physics behind flight technology. Students will be engaged from hands-on and conceptual perspectives by working with mentors and trainers who will instruct and inspire them to explore a variety of opportunities in these fields.
Program: This competition is for middle school students. Students will learn the concepts and career opportunities that are available in the aerospace industry. They will also learn the fundamentals of flying as well as flight technology. Teams of four students will then build… that’s right build their own flight simulator which will be displayed at the Flight Simulation Competition during Patriots 14th Annual Youth Summit on Technology (May 7th). Students will share their knowledge and be judged for competency in flight including becoming airborne, developing and maintaining flight paths, safely landing, and overall aeronautical skills during the competition. They will compete in a tournament bracket until the winner with the best skills is decided.
Prizes: All students will receive a 2010 Patriots Video Gaming Conference t-shirt. Door prizes provided by Microsoft and Best Buy.
