MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE BOWL

 

Next Science Bowl Competition:                              March 10, 2012

                                                                         Walker Mill Middle School

                                                                                 Capitol Heights , MD

 

General information:  This will be the 6th year that the Patriots will host the DOE Maryland Regional Middle School Science Bowl.  The National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that test students’ knowledge in all areas of science.  Teams consist of four students and an alternate.  The Science Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 8am to 4pm at Walker Mill Middle School , Landover , MD.   In preparation for this event, a Coach Workshop will be held on Saturday, January 21st from 10am to 12noon for the “Electric Battery Car Competition” at Walker Middle School , Landover , MD.  

 

Program:   There are two phases of the Middle School Science Bowl – an academic math and science competition where students are quizzed in a fast paced question-and-answer format similar to Jeopardy and an electric battery car competition.The car competition challenges students to use

 

Teams:  Any current public, private or home school students (in grades 6th to 8th, ages 10 to 14) may form a team and participate. A limit of 20 teams will compete in the event. Business and government support:  As the official Science Bowl Sponsor, Lockheed Martin has provided breakfast and lunch as well as guest speaker.   Volunteers from various government agencies, Legacy, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin have participated as judges, moderators, timekeepers, and scorekeepers.  Members of the University of Maryland Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers Chapter, the Science, Technology & Society Program and Tau Beta Pi (The Engineering Honor Society) provide sponsorship and assist to make this Science Bowl an overwhelming success.
