General
information:
This will be the 6th year that the Patriots will host
the DOE Maryland Regional Middle School Science Bowl.
The National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic
competition that test students’ knowledge in all areas
of science. Teams consist of four students and an alternate. The Science Bowl is
scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 8am to 4pm
at Kenmoor Middle School, Landover, MD. In preparation
for this event, a Coach Workshop will be held on
Saturday, January 21st from 10am to 12noon
for the “hydrogen fuel cell car” at Kenmoor Middle
School, Landover, MD.
Program: There are two
phases of the Middle School Science Bowl – an academic
math and science competition where students are quizzed
in a fast paced question-and-answer format similar to
Jeopardy and a hydrogen fuel cell car competition. The
hydrogen fuel cell car competition challenges students
to design, build, and race model cars.
Teams: Any current
public, private or home school students (in grades 6th to 8th, ages 10 to 14) may form a team and
participate. A limit of 20 teams will compete in the
event. Teams are approved on a first come, first served

Business
and government support:
As the official Science Bowl Sponsor, Lockheed Martin
has provided breakfast and lunch as well as guest
speaker. Volunteers from various government agencies,
Legacy, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin have participated
as judges, moderators, timekeepers, and scorekeepers.
The University of Maryland Chapter of the National
Society of Black Engineers Chapter and Engineering Honor
Society in the sponsorship and helped to make this
Science Bowl an overwhelming success.
