Maryland Regional Middle School Science Bowl

Prince George's Community College - Largo, MD


General information:This is our 8th year hosting the DOE Maryland Regional Middle School Science Bowl. The National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition where the students' are knowledge in all areas of science. Teams consist of four students and an alternate. The Science Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2014  from 8am to 4pm at the Prince George's Community College.

 

Program:There are two phases of the Middle School Science Bowl - an academic math and science competition where students are quizzed in a fast paced question-and-answer format similar to Jeopardy and Electric Battery Car Competition. The Electric Battery Car Competition is a classroom-based, hands-on educational program in which student teams apply math, engineering, science, and creativity to construct and race a model electric-powered car. In preparation for the car competition, a Coach workshop will be held.

 


Business and government support:As the official Science Bowl Sponsors, Prince George's Community College will host the event and Lockheed Martin provide breakfast and lunch as well as a guest speaker. Volunteers from various government agencies, industry and academia such as Legacy, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, the University of Maryland Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers Chapter and Engineering Honor Society have participated as judges, moderators, timekeepers, and scorekeepers. Our volunteer partners have helped to make the Science Bowl and overwhelming success.
